Allman was known for his soulful voice and played with a Hammond organ and guitar. Allman was called a “Southern rock pioneer” and received multiple prizes, including a Grammy Award.

Allman was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame for his musical achievements. His unusual voice landed him at number 70 on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” list.

What was the cause of Gregg Allman’s death?

At the age of 69, Allman died on May 27, 2017, at his home in Richmond Hill, Georgia, following complications from liver cancer. Former bandmate Dickey Betts, his ex-wife Cher, and former President Jimmy Carter were among those who attended his funeral on June 3 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel in Macon.

He was laid to rest alongside his brother Duane and fellow band member Berry Oakley in Macon’s Rose Hill Cemetery.
