Lake Lanier is a reservoir in the northern portion of the US state of Georgia. It was created by the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956 and is also fed by the waters of the Chestatee River.

The lake encompasses 38,000 acres or 59 square miles of water, and 692 miles of shoreline at the normal level, a pool of 1071feet above mean sea level and the exact shorelines varies by resolution according to the coastline paradox.

How many deaths have happened at Lake Lanier?
According to the Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division: Lake Lanier experienced 57 boating fatalities and 145 drawings between 1999 and 2018.
From 2015 to 2018 alone, Lake Lainer saw 43 lake-related deaths. Georgia’s DNR says that from 2015 to 2018, Lainer had 128 boating accidents.
