Jessica Ann Simpson is a singer, actor, businesswoman, and fashion designer from the United States. Simpson rose to fame as a teen idol in the late 1990s and was labelled Columbia Records’ “blond response to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera,” who had all previously released successful first albums.

Simpson signed with Columbia Records in 1997, at the age of 17, after singing in church choirs as a youth. Sweet Kisses, her debut studio album, sold two million copies in the United States, and the single “I Wanna Love You Forever” was a big success.

Irresistible, Simpson’s second studio album, featured a more mature image, and the title track became her second top 20 Billboard Hot 100 entry, while the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Simpson’s third studio album, In This Skin, sold three million sales in the United States.

The Price of Beauty, Simpson’s VH1 documentary series, premiered in March 2010. The series follows Simpson across the world, exposing viewers to diverse cultures’ perceptions of beauty.
