Rory McIlroy, is in search of his first major victory since 2014 and third PGA Championship title overall, is in the lead, after shooting a 5-under-par 65 in the first round.

McIlroy leads Will Zalatoris and Tom Hoge (66) by one stroke.

The current cut line at the 2022 PGA Championship is 2 over par and it will move throughout the second round with the 70th-place player.

The top 70 players in the PGA Championship field (including ties) will advance to the third and fourth days of competition over the weekend.

The cut rules do not apply to the PGA of America club professionals in the field as they will be allowed to play the weekend no matter what their scorecard reads after the second round.

The PGA Championship cut rules are a bit more forgiving than those on display at the Masters, where only the top 50 (including ties) advance.

The Open Championship employs the same rules as the PGA Championship (top 70 plus ties).
