Footage of Hollywood actor James Franco visiting Amber Heard at her flat the night before she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp has emerged.

The CCTV tape was shown to jurors in the Fairfax, Virginia, courthouse on Tuesday morning, as Ms Heard faced intensive cross-examination from Mr Depp’s legal team during the former couple’s high-stakes defamation trial.

On May 21, 2016, police were called to the residence following a violent confrontation in which Ms Heard claims Mr Depp threw a cellphone at her. Ms Heard filed for divorce from Mr Depp the day after the tape of Mr Franco was taken, on May 23, 2016.

Ms Heard earlier testified that Mr Depp assaulted her on a plane in 2014 after accusing her of having an affair with Mr Franco.

Mr Depp allegedly “hated” the actor who co-starred in the films Pineapple Express and The Adderall Diaries with Ms Heard. Mr Depp has denied all charges.

Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation in connection with an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 in which she identified herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”
