Tecia has been involved in martial arts since age 3.

Tecia began in taekwondo as a child, and received her black belt after twelve years practicing the sport.

Tecia also has an amateur muay thai record of sixteen victories and four losses.

Tecia graduated at 20 years old in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts, double majoring in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Florida Atlantic University.

Tecia earned her master’s degree in Criminology from the same college in 2017.

Tecia is of Puerto Rican, Portuguese and Irish descent and her family has roots in Maunabo, Puerto Rico.

Tecia began her amateur mixed martial arts career in 2011, winning each of her seven bouts and obtaining 115-pound titles in MMA Solutions, US Freedom Fighter Championship and American Battle Championships.

In 2012, Torres moved to professional mixed martial arts and signed with Invicta Fighting Championships.

Tecia made her professional and promotional debut against Kaiyana Rain on October 6, 2012, at Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama and won via unanimous decision.

In December 2013, Tecia was announced as one of 11 women signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for its newly created strawweight division.

Tecia still fights in the UFC and currently competes in the strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

But in April 2022, Tecia was handed an indefinite suspension after her loss to Mackenzie Dern at UFC 273.

The Florida State Boxing Commission suspended 14 fighters who competed on the pay-per-view card, but top-ranked strawweight Tecia was the only fighter to receive an indefinite suspension.

It’s unclear why Tecia was indefinitely suspended.
