Ryder, an Essex-based vocalist who built a massive TikTok following during the pandemic, approached the contest with confidence, and optimism.
He and his group appreciated that Eurovision offers a colossal platform to rising talents and should be treated with respect.

After the initial jury vote, Ryder was on top of the list of competitors however the resulting public vote pegged him down to second place.

Ryder wrote ‘Space Man’ during the pandemic. He started his music career as a solo artist.
He had travelled to Nashville, Tennessee to record an album with producer Bryan Wilson in 2016, but the album was never released.
As a result, Ryder invested his energy performing at weddings and clubs.
