Patty Peterson died from a heart attack on July 8, 2021, at Duke University Hospital. She was aged 78.

She was Michael Peterson’s first wife and the mother of Todd Peterson and Clayton Peterson.

She had lived in Durham and stood by Michael during his murder trial.

Patty was a lover of the arts and had taught elementary school for children of American military families for many years.

Born in Paris, Arkansas, to a military family, Patty, was married to Michael for 30 years but later divorced.

While married to Michael, her friend, Elizabeth Ratliff passed on in 1985, a day after the Petersons hosted her at their German home. Ratliff had died from falling off the staircsse, the same way Kathleen had died.

The case bred suspicions at the time of Michael’s trial because he was the last person to be seen with Ratliff at the time.

Patty bagged her first degree from the University of Texas in Austin, and a Master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.
