What Is The True Story Behind Moana?

Disney’s comic film, Moana is based on the cultural heritage and history of Polynesian islands such as Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, and Tahiti.

Created by John Musker and Ron Clements, Moana was produced after five years of extensive research and brainstorming.

Polynesians were a seafaring people , just as portrayed in the comic movie.

The canoe in Moana is fashioned after the ancient, highly efficient voyaging canoe of the Polynesians.

The canoe, which is no less than 60 feet long, enabled the Polynesians to sail thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean.

The Disney Moana Story

Moana tells the story of a brave South Pacific princess who sails across the boisterous waves of the Pacific Ocean, to return a sacred stone to an island deity, so that her land and people will be saved.

Her voyage is against the wish of her parents, except her grandmother who was her source of encouragement.

In company of a demigod, Moana faces the dangers of the sea but is able to overcome at the end. Now her people can travel to the ends of the earth, search for food and explore the universe.
