Bruce MacVittie Obituary

Sopranos actor and co-founder of the Naked Angels troupe in New York, Bruce MacVitties, died on May 7, 2022, in a New York hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ochs and daughter, Sophia.

Bruce was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on Oct. 14, 1956. He was aged 65.

He attended Boston University, and was a member ofthe Ensemble Studio Theatre.

Bruce was a well known figure in Broadway theater, in movies and on TV, often playing villain with vulnerable souls.

Bruce starred in What’s So Beautiful About A Sunset Over Prairie Avenue?, a movie produced by Edward Allen Baker.

As far back as 1983, MacVittie was a protégé to James Hayden in David Mamet’s American Buffalo production.

Bruce spent over a decade at the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights’ Conference under Lloyd Richards; 10 seasons at the Williamstown Theatre Festival under Michael Ritchie and Jenny Gersten; and wired together with Joanne Woodward for many years on the plays of Clifford Odets.

He went ahead to star in London’s West End with Al Pacino and J.J Johnson.

Bruce has on a number of times featured on countless TV series such as Law and Order, The Stand, When They See Us.
