Jesse Williams is an actor, director, and activist best known for his role on the ABC medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr Jackson Avery. Williams was one of 14 actors chosen to participate in the New York Actors Showcase, presented by ABC Television while studying acting in 2005.

In 2006, he made his television debut as Kwame in an episode of “Law & Order: SVU.” That year, Williams also had a recurring role in the surfing drama series “Beyond the Break”.

In addition to acting in films, Williams produced the 2020 short film “Two Distant Strangers,” which is about police brutality and racial injustice in modern America. The film went on to win the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

Williams is a member of the Advancement Project’s board of directors, a civil rights think tank and advocacy organisation. He is also the executive producer of Question Bridge: Black Males, a multimedia project, exhibition, and teacher and student curriculum about black male identity. Williams received the BET humanitarian award in 2016 for his efforts.
