Shireen Abu Aqleh was an Al-Jazeera journalist who was shot dead on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, while she was reporting on a raid by Israeli security forces in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

Al-Jazeera said Abu Aqleh, 51, was shot “deliberately” and “in cold blood” by Israeli troops.
However, the Israeli military has denied that its forces targeted and killed journalists.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid described Abu Aqleh’s death as “sad” and said it had offered to carry out a joint investigation with the Palestinian Authority.

Prior to joining Al-Jazeera, Abu Aqleh worked for UNRWA, Voice of Palestine Radio, Amman Satellite Channel, the Miftah Foundation, and Monte Carlo Radio.
Abu Aqleh first studied architecture at the University of Science and Technology in Jordan, then later moved on to the written journalism, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Yarmouk University in Jordan.
There’s no information regarding Aqleh’s personal life and as a result, it is unknown if she was married.
