Esparza did just enough to earn scores of 49-46 and 48-47 from two judges in a bout that received many negative reviews from fans and analysts online due to a lack of action.
The first two rounds went by without incident. Neither fighter landed a notable blow. Namajunas and Esparza got things going in the third round.

In the fourth round, Esparza managed to get the fight to the ground again, taking Namajunas’ back before being shrugged off. Namajunas won the final round by landing more strikes and a late takedown before both fighters were booed when the fight ended.
Esparza has been unbeaten since 2019 and earned a title shot at UFC 274 by putting together a five-fight win streak that includes impressive victories over Marian Rodriguez and Yan Xiaonan.
