George Pérez was a comic book illustrator and writer from Puerto Rico. He was arguably the most popular and influential artist in American comic books in the 1980s.

Pérez is best known for co-creating the New Teen Titans with writer Marv Wolfman in 1980, where the two created Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire, as well as having Dick Grayson transform into Nightwing.

With Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wolfman and Pérez reshaped the DC Universe, which led to Pérez rebooting Wonder Woman in 1987 with a beloved five-year run that redefined Diana for a new generation.

Pérez is probably best remembered at Marvel for two separate runs on the Avengers, first with Steve Englehart in the 1970s and then with Kurt Busiek in the 1990s when the two relaunched the series to great acclaim in 1998.

Following the death of longtime Justice League artist Dick Dillin, Pérez began drawing the Justice League of America. As a result, Pérez was drawing the most famous Marvel and DC heroes at the same time.

Pérez was inspired by this remarkable achievement to draw the Justice League of America/Avengers crossover that was set to be released in 1983. The project, however, fell apart after Pérez had already completed several pages of the book.
