Canelo, who is 57-1-2, is moving up in weight to challenge Bivol for the title. Canelo’s best years came at middleweight and super middleweight, but he moved up to light heavyweight in 2019 to defeat Sergey Kovalev for the WBO title.

Canelo is the current undisputed super middleweight champion, having unified the division with an 11th-round TKO of Caleb Plant last November.

Bivol is 19-0 and has held the WBA title in some form since 2016, winning a unanimous decision over Umar Salamov last December.

Although official purse figures have not been released, Total Sportal reports that Canelo will earn a guaranteed $15 million for the fight and will receive 70% of PPV sales. Bivol, on the other hand, is guaranteed $2 million and will receive up to 30% of PPV sales.
