Janis Joplin died of an accidental heroin overdose at the age of 27 in 1970.  She was found dead with bloody lips and a broken nose by her manager after she failed to show up for a recording session.

Janis Joplin was a rock, soul, and blues singer and songwriter from the United States. She was a successful and well-known rock star of her time, known for her powerful mezzo-soprano vocals and “electric” stage presence.

In 1967, Joplin rose to prominence after performing at the Monterey Pop Festival as the lead singer of the then-unknown San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Pearl, her second solo album, was released in January 1971, just over three months after she died. It debuted at the top of the Billboard charts. In 1995, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously.
