Through her appearance on the first episode of the seventh season of Finding Your Roots, Glenn Close came to find out that she is related to Princess Diana.

Her 7 times great-grandparents, is also distantly related to fellow actor Clint Eastwood, and that some of her ancestors were slaveholders.
And while Glenn confesses that she doesn’t know Clint personally, she did actually meet Princess Diana back in 1989 at the London premiere of her film Dangerous Liaisons.
“She was lovely,” recalls Glenn, while taking in a photo of them together and noting: “Look at our hairstyles, they are very much alike!”

The unlikely link between the two women comes via Glenn’s British ancestors. It’s just one of the fascinating facts about the actress revealed in the show.
When she was 7, her parents joined a religious group called Moral Re-Armament, which Glenn describes as a “cult.”
They even moved to the organization’s headquarters in Switzerland and Glenn was sent out into the world as part of a singing group.
She admits: “I didn’t know how to get out.” But eventually at age 22 she did break away from the group and pursued her dream of becoming an actress.
Glenn discovers she has Quakers and Puritans in her family and is visibly upset to find she has slave-owners in her family background.
