Adam Nathaniel Yauch, was an American rapper, bassist, filmmaker, and founding member of the hip hop group Beastie Boys.

Yauch founded Oscilloscope Laboratories, a New York City-based independent film production and distribution company. He was active in the Tibetan independence movement as a Buddhist and organised the Tibetan Freedom Concert.
Adam directed the 2008 film Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot, which followed eight high school basketball prospects at Rucker Park in Harlem, New York City, during the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic.

Adam died on May 4 2012 after a three-year battle with salivary cancer.
When did Adam Yauch get cancer?
Yauch was diagnosed with cancer of the parotid gland and lymph node in 2009. He had surgery and radiation therapy, which caused the release of Hot Sauce Committee Part Two and the accompanying tour to be postponed. He was unable to appear in any of the album’s music videos. Yauch described cancer as “very treatable” at the time.
