On April 25 2022, five students in a Nissan Altima ran a red light and collided with a deputy patrol car from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened around 12:24 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway and Southwest Murray Boulevard.

Amaya, a passenger, and Juan Pacheco Aguilera, 16, died at the scene, while the other three teenagers and the deputy remain in critical condition.
Deputy Michael Trotter, who has been with the sheriff’s office since 2013, is fighting for his life, as are three students from Southridge High School according to the sheriff’s office.

Meanwhile, the family and friends of two students killed in the crash are mourning the loss of the ones they love.
Juan Pacheco Aguilera’s cousin told KGW that she would miss him forever.
“He was simply a wonderful person. He was driven to succeed, and he was attempting to graduate early “she stated “He just went out of his way to make sure everyone was okay; he put everyone ahead of himself.”
