The phrase “committed suicide” harkens back to when it was once a crime — you hear the same construction in “committed murder”, for example. It’s still considered a crime in some parts of the world. California and the rest of the US are not those parts of the world.

This phrase is outdated, adds to the stigma of those suffering and who have taken their lives, and should not be in use. Thank you.
