The same video also made rounds in South Africa as it was reported that the same mermaid was found in South Africa.

The said video was uploaded by TikTok user @skinfluencebymsk and gained millions of views.

The TikToker said she decided to upload the footage after many users tagged her in their posts.

The bottom half of the “mermaid” was in the form of a fish tail, while the upper part appears to show a young person with their arms spread out and eyes closed.

Owing to the nature of the video, a lot of people began to wonder if the video was actually true and that a “mermaid” was found in South Africa.

The trending “mermaid” turned out to be false as the original video was found on YouTube.

The original video, which is little more than two minutes shows the “mermaid” from different sides and if you pause on 0:07, you can clearly see that there is a gap between the “mermaid’s” belly and the fish tail.

The gap is indicative of the fact that the bottom half of the “mermaid” is just a fish tail.

Also, the hair of the “mermaid” looks like it’s from a Disney movie and the “mermaid” has long ombre hair, which appears to be a red wig similar to Ariel’s hair.

In fact, the video claiming to show a ‘real mermaid’ in South Africa went so viral that police had to tell viewers they’re fake.

There were others who weren’t convinced that the “mermaid” video is genuine.

“To me it looks like a child inside the mouth of a fish and people calling her a mermaid,” commented one user under the TikTok video.

Another asked: “My main wonder is, did they check to see if the fish and human parts were connected? Did a fish swallow a kid or were they actually one living thing?”

Someone else wrote:

“She’s literally wearing an ombre wig – you think mermaids got a wig store?”
