Trevor Reed is former US marine who has been held in a Russian jail since 2019.

Trevor Reed was released on Wed April 27, 2022 in a prisoner swap deal with Russia.
In exchange, Russia’s foreign ministry secured the release of Konstantin Yaroshenko, a Russian national jailed on drug smuggling charges.
In a statement, the Reed family said that their “prayers have been answered.”
Trevor Reed went to Moscow in 2019 to learn Russian as well as visit his Russian girlfriend.
However, on a drunken night out, Reed was detained by two police officers after attending a party.

While being driven to the police station, Reed is reported to have grabbed the police officer driving, causing him to swerve dangerously, and also elbowed the other officer who tried to intervene.
During trial, Reed maintained that he had no recollection of the incident and pleaded not guilty.
However, he was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2020 on assault charges.
