Three women have accused the DJ of predatory and opportunistic sexual behaviour, while four others claim he groped them at events.

The women, who were in their late teens or early twenties at the time of the alleged incidents, spoke to the Guardian and BBC News as part of a joint investigation into the former BBC Radio 1 DJ.

The first alleged incident occurred in 1992, and the most recent in 2017. “Someone taking advantage of my naivety and lack of confidence isn’t something I should have to carry with shame,” one of the women said.

Westwood has categorically denied all of the allegations. According to a spokesperson, they were completely false and were denied in their entirety.

On Tuesday, April 2022, the BBC stated that it was “shocked” by the allegations. “The BBC is against all forms of inappropriate behaviour, and we are shocked to hear of these allegations,” a spokesperson said. The BBC has strict codes of conduct for all employees, including on-air presenters.”

The women, all of whom are black, decided to tell their stories after anonymous allegations of inappropriate behaviour against Westwood surfaced on social media in June 2020.
