Randy Rand, the founding bassist of Autograph in the 1980s, passed away on April 26 2022. In a social media post, the band confirmed the news. As the band shared the news on their Facebook page, no cause of death was given. Rand was the band’s lone survivor, and they’d just signed a deal with Frontiers Music Srl for a new album due out in 2023.

The following was part of the statement: “Randy Rand, a cherished friend and founding member of Autograph, passed away unexpectedly, and it is with great sadness that we announce his passing.

“Randy was surrounded by his beautiful and infinite love, Regina Rand, and family at the time of his death.

Rand Rand was married to Regina Rand. He is survived by his wife and their children.

In the 1970s, Rand was a member of the Los Angeles club band Wolfgang before forming Autograph in Pasadena in 1984 with guitarist Steve Lynch, singer Steve Plunkett, keyboardist Steven Isham, and drummer Keni Richards.

While still unsigned, Autograph performed their first live shows as support to Van Halen thanks to a friendship with David Lee Roth.
