Did Paddy Doherty get beaten up?

A former bare-knuckle boxer who starred in Channel 4 shows Big Fat Gypsy Weddings was the victim of an attack by his cousin, Johnny Joyce in August 2010.

After going to Paddy’s caravan park home for more booze, the two Irish travelers got into an argument. Joyce, who was wearing a large gold ring, allegedly used his fists to fracture both sides of the victim’s jaw.

During the fight, Johnny Joyce, 23, bit off a piece of Mr Doherty’s ear. Mr Doherty also suffered a broken jaw but Mr Joyce claims it was done in self-defence as he suspected he was about to be attacked.

Mr Doherty collapsed on a grass verge, bloodied and badly injured, after a woman passing by urged Joyce and his elder brother Dougie, who was filming the fracas, to ‘leave him alone.

At Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court, Mr Joyce denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent

Paddy Doherty, 52, of Flintshire, North Wales, had previously admitted affray and received a suspended sentence. Johnny Joyce, 21, of Cherry Avenue, Openshaw, pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
