James Madison University has announced the death of one of its softball players, Lauren Bernett.

Lauren Bernett died on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 aged 20.
A cause of death was not stated and as a result, it’s impossible to tell what led to the sudden death of the rising softball star.
Just yesterday (Mon April 25, 2022), Lauren Bernett was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week as the Dukes swept a three-game set from Drexel.
Lauren Bernett also hit .778 with seven RBIs in the series.

Again, this season, Lauren Bernett hit .336 with nine homers and 33 RBI, including setting the school’s single-game RBI record against College of Charleston with seven on April 16.
In a statement, James Madison University said that the school’s doubleheader against Longwood has been canceled.
The statement reads;
“College athletics is great because of the people with whom we get to interact every day.”
“We are a tight family. We are grateful that Lauren has been part of our JMU Athletics community and will always consider her to be a Duke. We will miss her dearly,”
