On Monday April 25, 2022, Twitter struck a deal with multibillionaire Elon Musk, handing over control of the popular microblogging platform to him.

Elon Musk will pay about $44 billion, or $54.20 a share, to take the social media company private. This was according to an announcement from Twitter.
Earlier, on April 4, Elon Musk revealed that he had accumulated a 9% stake in Twitter, making him the company’s biggest individual shareholder.
If the deal goes through as expected, Elon Musk will have the power to reshape the company and platform as he pleases.

Elon Musk is an avid critic of Twitter, where he has more than 83 million followers and regularly posts memes, boosts his companies Tesla and SpaceX, and squabbles with those who criticize him.

Elon Musk has vowed to “unlock” Twitter’s potential by loosening what he sees as unfair restrictions on free speech.
In a tweet announcing his takeover, Elon Musk said;
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.”
