In the movie, an alien arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must learn what it means to become human, even as he fights for the survival of his species.
The movie is based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis and previously made into a film in 1976 starring David Bowie.
It had been in development at Hulu for over a year, and was moved as a result of the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, as disagreements over co-production could not be resolved. It was created by Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman.
