Bruce Russell (Radio) Cause Of Death, Bruce Russell Obituary

Bruce Russell of Newstalk ZB passed away in April 2022. Bruce worked as a nightly anchor, news anchor, and host of the popular Saturday night show In My Day until he died in his early 70s. He died just as he was about to begin hosting Newstalk ZB’s nightly show on April 24, 2022. His cause of death was not revealed.

“One of our long-time Newstalk ZB presenters, Bruce Russell, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully during the night,” the broadcaster said in a statement on the Newstalk ZB website. “Bruce is an excellent team player as well as a gifted host and news anchor who has delighted our viewers over the years.”

Russell’s broadcasting career took him to New Zealand. He began writing ads, after which he began posting announcements, and he was assigned to various community stations, where he “did every shift in the sun,” according to his ZB bio.

He switched to programming in Timaru and went on to work as a manager at a small station in the central North Island.

Russell is left behind by his wife Lorna and son Andrew.
