Eli grew up in Apple Creek, Ohio, in an Amish community. Eli was described as a quiet and reserved man by those who knew him. Eli’s first death, the first of many, occurred in 1977. Ida, his wife, died in a barn fire.

Glen Pritchett’s body was discovered in a ditch in Austin, Texas, in May 1985, and Eli was the prime suspect. He was hit in the head with a bullet. Before his death, Glen lived with Eli and his son Danny. Eli was found guilty of murder in this case.
For Glen’s murder, Eli was sentenced to 40 years in prison, but he only served 13. In 2005, he was released on parole

After his release, Eli settled in Fort Worth, Texas. Eli was found dead in his apartment on January 31, 2007, from an apparent suicide. His left arm had been injured by a sharp force. Eli was HIV-positive and had a lot of cocaine in his system at the time.
Gregg Olsen penned a book about Eli’s links to the various murders. According to the book, Eli had relationships with several gay men whom he met through advertisements and sex parties. He was suspected but never charged in the murders of his wife and Dennis and David. Eli was 56 years old when he died.
