Heartstopper is a British coming-of-age romance streaming television series developed for Netflix based on the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. The series was released on April 22, 2022.

Production began on location in April and wrapped in June 2021. Filming primarily took place on location in the Kent coastal town of Herne Bay, with Herne Bay High School standing in for the fictional Truham Grammar School for Boys.

Is Heartstopper inappropriate?

The translated comic book, Heartstopper, written by English writer Alice Oseman, was declared inappropriate by the Council to protect Children from Obscene Publications.

The book is about a character named Charlie, who was bullied at school because of his sexual orientation, and his expression after meeting young character named, Nick.

    People labelling the series have either NOT watched any of it or are right wing bigots trying to intimidate others. The group quotes as apposing is from the 12th century.

    I’m curious as to why this was labeled as obscene. Apart from a signal instance of the F slur being used and a kissing scene that mildly parallels sexual assault, the show is clean for teenage (the main audience) viewers.

    I do hope that it isn’t marked as inappropriate as the main character is gay! That would be obscene. When I was younger that kind of thing was normal but I thou thought we’d moved on so much that the charity for protecting children would want to protect by grandbabies from gay people that they don’t need protecting from! We should love gay people the same (or even more as they’ve faced lots of obscene actions towards them from straight people).
