Who Is The Father Of Mwai Kibaki?

Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki was born as the youngest son of peasant parents, Kikuyu peasants Kibaki Gĩthĩnji and Teresia Wanjikũ.

Githinji, father of Kibaki’s story is rarely known, particularly to the young generation.

Githinji did not have any status and was a peasant just like other people in Gathiru-ini village, whose main economic activities were growing crops and rearing animals.

However, on December 17, 1983 the country woke up to sad news that Githinji had been brutally murdered by his farmhand identified as Jacob Maina Nyaga.

At the time he was killed by the man he had trusted for many years, his son Mwai Kibaki was the country’s vice president.

Kibaki was also MP for Othaya and had previously served as minister for finance during regimes of former President Jomo Kenyatta and his successor Daniel arap Moi.

Nyaga was arrested over Githinji murder and was found guilty and sentenced to hang and imprisoned at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

Soon after Kibaki took over power in 2002, pardoned many death row inmates but Nyaga was not among them.

In a past interview his family said they were not sure whether their son was still in prison or dead.

Kabando’s brother, Ceasar Thiari, was accused of killing her mother Rose Wacera, at her home in Kaini village, Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County on July, 27, 2014.

Upon his arrest, Thiari confessed he grabbed a panga and slashed his mother after becoming bitter for being reminded about the death of his father who had passed on in 1980.
