Robert Edward Crane was an American actor, drummer, radio personality, and disc jockey best remembered for his role in Hogan’s Heroes on CBS.

Crane began his career as a radio personality, first in New York City and subsequently in Connecticut, when he was 11 years old. He later relocated to Los Angeles, where he hosted the top-rated morning radio show.
Crane began acting in the early 1960s, eventually obtaining the major part of Colonel Robert Hogan in Hogan’s Heroes. Crane received two Emmy Award nominations for the series, which aired from 1965 until 1971.

Crane’s career began to wane after Hogan’s Heroes. He got dissatisfied with the limited roles he was given and began acting at dinner theatres.
Crane was discovered savagely beaten in his Scottsdale, Arizona, residence in June 1978, while on tour for a dinner theatre production of Beginner’s Luck. Officially, the homicide remains unsolved
