California residents will get an extra day to pay their 2022 income taxes after a technical fault delayed some households from submitting payments online.

On Monday, April 18 evening, the Franchise Tax Board said in a news release and a statement on its website that “We are extending the deadline for all payments due on April 18, 2022, to April 19, 2022, owing to a service issue with our Web Pay application. Payments received by the 19th of April at 11:59 p.m. PDT would be deemed timely.”

The agency did not specify what caused the problem.

Every year, federal income taxes are due on April 15th, and California follows the same schedule. However, due to the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington, D.C., which honours the end of slavery in the nation’s capital, the deadline this year was April 18.

The majority of California taxpayers are eligible to file their state taxes online for free using the tax board’s CalFile programme. CalFile enables taxpayers to file directly with the tax board and gives immediate confirmation.

Personal income tax returns are processed in three weeks for electronic filers, four weeks for paper filers, and five months for revised filings, according to the tax board.
