Several women took to social media in January 2021 to accuse the actor of emotional abuse, manipulation, and sexual violence. The issue erupted when screengrabs of the actor appeared to show him detailing sexual fantasies including rape and cannibalism.
Following the allegations, Hammer backed out of two high-profile projects: a rom-com with Jennifer Lopez and a Paramount+ series about the creation of The Godfather. WME, his agency, also dropped him.

On March 18, a woman named Effie held a Zoom press conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred, to accuse the actor of “violently raping” her in a 2017 assault that she claims lasted four hours. “He banged my head against a wall repeatedly, hurting my face,” Effie sobbed.
“He also engaged in additional acts of violence against me that I did not consent to.” For example, he beat my feet with a crop such that every step I took for the next week was pained. I tried to escape for four hours, but he wouldn’t let me. “I was afraid he was going to kill me.”
