Armie Hammer is the great-grandson of millionaire Armand Hammer. The 31-year-old grew up in a wealthy family. His family, who amassed a multimillion-dollar fortune in the oil industry, relocated to the idyllic Cayman Islands when he was a child.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Armand became a millionaire in the 1910s before graduating from college by selling whiskey to drugstores during Prohibition. Along with making whiskey, he made the rest of his money through dealing in art and breeding cattle at the time.

It’s unclear how much Hammer is worth because of family money, but considering that he’s a direct heir of Armand (Armie’s father, Michael Hammer, is also a successful businessman with a net worth in the millions), the actor is sure to have a large stake in his family’s company.
Despite his namesake’s legacy, Armie attributes his achievement to his efforts. In a 2012 interview, he stated that he is “not backed by family money in any way.”
