Isaac does, in fact, die. When Isaac discovers Kayla’s terrifying encounter with ‘CURS>R’ is all too true, he offers to assist Kayla. They wait together for the game’s third level, which requires Kayla to select between Isaac and her late brother Ricky.

Isaac is her choice, and she saves him from death. Isaac’s traumatic experience inspires him to solve the game’s secret, and he discovers an address associated with it. He goes to a warehouse with Kayla and comes across a Home video in which Beck, the game’s developer, discusses the history of ‘CURS>R.’

Isaac is cursed after attempting to “cheat the game,” as he is confined in a medium that mimics analogue video. Kayla is forced to choose between rewinding and fast forwarding in order to save Isaac, and she opts for the latter. However, he begins to vomit videotape and dies as a result.

Kayla is successful in rescuing her mother from the curse, but she is unsuccessful in rescuing Isaac. She advances to the fifth and final level of ‘CURS>R’ at Isaac’s expense. His attempts to rescue Kayla from her perilous situation resulted in his death, leaving her to face the fifth level alone.
