Twenty-three people were killed, including the bomber, and 1,017 people were injured, the majority of whom were children. Hundreds more were afflicted with psychological trauma.

Salman Ramadan Abedi, a 22-year-old local man of Libyan heritage, was the bomber. After initially suspecting a terrorist network, investigators eventually stated that Abedi acted primarily alone, but that others were aware of his plans.

Hashem Abedi, the bomber’s brother, was found guilty of 22 counts of murder in connection with the incident in March 2020.

The attack was the deadliest terrorist act in the UK since 2005, and it was the first suicide bombing.ISIS claimed responsibility for the incident but did not provide any evidence, and neither American nor British officials have confirmed this.

The explosion triggered a nightlong hunt for loved ones, with panicked parents trying to find their children and groups of friends scattered by the bomb looking for each other.
