Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins died on April 9, 2022, after being hit by a car in south Florida. He was aged 24.

Dwayne Haskins joined the Steelers before the 2021 season and looked to be in the mix to battle for the starting quarterback job this season after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger.

Dwayne Haskins signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020 and was on the team’s roster when he was fatally struck by a car during the 2022 off-season.

Born in Highland Park, New Jersey, Dwayne Haskins, and his family moved to Potomac, Maryland, when he was in the ninth grade.

There, he attended and played football at Bullis School from 2013–2016, where he passed for 5,308 yards and 54 touchdowns.

Florida Highway Patrol stated that he was walking on Interstate 595 near Davie, was struck by a dump truck while attempting to cross the westbound lanes of the highway and died at the scene.

Why was Dwayne Haskins on the highway?

According to reports, Dwayne Haskins was walking on a limited access facility highway while attempting to cross lanes on Interstate 595.

Regarding the reason why he was walking on the highway, Florida Highway Patrol told an ABC reporter: “Mr. Haskins was walking on a limited access facility (Highway/expressway) for unknown reasons.”
