Louise Minchin was born on September 8, 1968, in British Hong Kong. Her father has worked as a Major in the Irish Guards of the British Army. She went to school at St Mary’s School, Ascot before proceeding to get a degree in Spanish from the University of St Andrews.

Louise Minchin has also studied journalism at the London College of Communication. She began her career in the Latin American section of the BBC World Service. She has previously served as a regular anchor and co-host on the BBC One programme Breakfast.
