Why did Louis Oosthuizen withdraw from the Masters tournament?

Due to injuries, Louis Oosthuizen, the 2012 Masters runner-up, withdrew from the 2022 edition of the tournament.

The South African was slated to head off for the second round at 1:41 p.m., in a group with Tiger Woods and Joaquin Niemann. During round one, Oosthuizen struggled at times, shooting a 76 (+4) that included three bogeys and two double bogeys.

While the ailment that caused Oosthuizen’s withdrawal is unknown, he had already been limited by injuries earlier in the season.

Last November, Oosthuizen had to withdraw from the RSM Classic due to a lower-back ailment. He was out of the tournament for two months.

The South African has a history of injuries, having missed the US Open, the British Open, and the PGA Championship in 2013 due to back, hip, and neck issues. Oosthuizen withdrew from the RSM Classic in St. Simons, Georgia, in November because to back difficulties.

Oosthuizen, who hasn’t won a major since winning the 2010 British Open, was expected to battle at the top of the leaderboard at this year’s Masters. In 2021, he finished second in the PGA Championship and tied for third in the British Open, for a total of six top-three finishes.
