Fairbanks, Alaska, is the best place to see the Northern Lights in the United States. That doesn’t mean that you can’t see the Northern Lights in other US states or areas in Alaska, but this is the accessible city with the highest chances of seeing the Aurora.

On Wednesday night, an aurora swept across the northern United States as far south as Colorado. While the dancing lights appeared in greens, purples, and pinks, many commented on the aurora’s vibrant red, which could be vividly seen with the naked eye.

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center, the geomagnetic storm that sparked the aurora ranked as minor (a G1 on a scale of 5).

The center expects geomagnetic activity to continue through Saturday and could even register as a strong storm (G3).
