Annette Bening is an American actress who rose into the spotlight for playing Lady Macbeth in 1984 at the American Conservatory Theater.

Annette Carol Bening was born on May 29, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas, the United States as the youngest of four children born to her parents Shirley Katherine Ashley and Arnett Grant Bening.

Annette Bening’s mother was a church singer and soloist while her father was a sales training consultant and insurance salesman. She was raised alongside an older sister Jane Bening, and two older brothers Bradley Bening and Byron Bening.

Annette Bening graduated from San Diego’s Patrick Henry High School in 1975, where she studied drama. She later attended San Diego Mesa College where she graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts at San Francisco State University.

Annette Bening is a four-time Academy Award nominee for the films The Grifters (1990), American Beauty (1999), Being Julia (2004), and The Kids Are All Right (2010). She was earlier nominated for the 1987 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her Broadway debut in Coastal Disturbances as well as for the 2019 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for All My Sons.

Annette Bening received a film star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006. She is a recipient of several accolades including the BAFTA Award for Best Actress and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for American Beauty as well as two Golden Globe Awards for Being Julia and The Kids Are All Right.

Annette Bening was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for Mrs Harris.
