Michelle Carter was 17 years old when Conrad died.

Conrad Roy’s body was discovered in his truck in a parking lot in Massachusetts, US, on July 13, 2014. He died as a result of carbon monoxide asphyxiation, it was determined.

Roy, who was 18 at the time of his death, had been suffering from anxiety and depression. Carter, his long-distance girlfriend at the time, was 17 years old.

The couple met in 2012 in Florida, where both of their families were vacationing, and despite living only an hour apart, they maintained a long-distance, mostly text-based relationship.

Authorities discovered a series of text messages between Roy and Carter in the weeks leading up to his death during an investigation. Carter appeared to be encouraging Roy to commit suicide in the texts.

On the day of Roy’s death, Carter texted him, saying, “You keep putting it off and saying you’ll do it, but you never do.” If you don’t take action, it will always be that way.”
