His Major League Baseball (MLB) playing career spanned from 1986 to 2001 while playing for the Oakland Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals, winning one World Series championship each, with Oakland as a player in 1989 and with St. Louis as a coach in 2011.

Did Mark McGwire lose his home run record?
McGwire finished with 583 career-long balls and 1,414 RBIs, and he still holds the major league career record for at-bats per home run ratio (10.6).

While he never won an MVP award during his career, McGwire managed to hit 583 home runs in 7,660 plate appearances. McGwire had an effortless swing that made his home runs look extremely easy.
The three players, Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire who broke Babe Ruth and Roger Maris’ single-season record of 60 homers in 154 games and the modern-day record of 61 home runs in 162 games,
have now each been tarnished and in so doing have passed the title of Home Run King back to the rightful owners and era.
