Born in South Africa, Calix moved to London in 1991, and soon started organizing parties and DJing, while also working at a record shop.
She released her debut album, one on one on Warp Records in 2000, later going on to release a total of six albums on the storied label, including her 2021 LP, absent origin.

“She pushed the boundaries between electronic music, classical music, and art in a truly unique way. She will be terribly missed by everyone at the label, staff and artists alike,” shares Warp.
Alongside her music output, Calix also created her own multi-disciplinary installations, sculpture, video, and performance pieces. Recently, this included a collaboration with United Visual Artists on their luminous audio-visual work, Our Time.
“Mira was not only a hugely talented artist and composer, but she was also a beautiful, caring human who touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of working with her.”
