It appears that Dimebag Darrell and Phil had some misunderstandings. In an interview conducted long before Darrell’s murder, Phil called the guitarist a “shallow, foolish man” who “deserves to be badly beaten,” according to the cover story of the latest issue of the English magazine Metal Hammer.

Phil’s remarks were in response to Darrell’s accusation that Anselmo was addicted to heroin and that his singing was failing as a result. “He would verbally assault me,” Phil says in the article. “And knowing he was so much smaller than me, I could murder him like an f—-ing piece of vapour, you know, he’d turn into vapour.”
Dimebag’s final words were “Van Halen!” before he was tragically murdered. Dime would shout “Van Halen” to his brother Vinnie before a live concert to motivate them both to put on a joyful, vibrant, rocking night.
