Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz are long-time friends. It was Selma who took her under her wings when she first arrived in Hollywood, the more reason they are like sisters.

“I didn’t know anyone here and she picked me up from the airport and she said, ‘You’re not going to the hotel, you’re coming to my house because this is hard at the beginning and you’re going to feel very lonely,’” Penélope revealed. “So she took me to her house. That’s why now we’re like sisters.”

Salma Hayek is a Mexican-American actress who began her career in Mexico with starring roles in the telenovela Teresa as well as the romantic drama El Callejón de los Milagros, for which she received an Ariel Award nomination.

She soon established herself in Hollywood with appearances in films such as Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999), and Dogma (1999).
Hayek’s directing, producing and acting work on television has earned her four Emmy Awards nominations.
She won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children Special for The Maldonado Miracle (2004) and received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, one for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series and the other for Outstanding Comedy Series, for her work on the ABC television comedy-drama Ugly Betty (2006–10).
She also produced and played Minerva Mirabal in the Showtime film In the Time of the Butterflies (2001) and guest-starred on the NBC comedy series 30 Rock (2009–2013).
