Madonna, known in real life as Louise Veronica Ciccone was born on August 16, 1958, in Bay City Michigan, to parents Silvio “Tony” Ciccone and Madonna Fortin. She was brought up in Rochester Hills Michigan. Her mother died of breast cancer when she was only five.

Madonna’s father is of Italian descent while her mother was of French-Canadian descent. She is however American and was then brought up by her grandparents. The songstress who has often been referred to as the “Queen of Pop” got her first breakthrough hit “Everybody” on Billboard at the age of 22 when she delved solo into the New York music industry.

Madonna has stayed relevant since 1982 and has evolved throughout her art where she reinvented herself many times to surprise her fans. She initially became a sensation in the then male-dominated 1980s music scene. By 1991, she had achieved 21 Top 10 hits in the United States and sold more than 70 million albums internationally.

She is also the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time and ranked the greatest music video artist of all time by Billboard and MTV. VH1 ranked her as the greatest woman in music.
