Charles Hardin Holley is also known as Buddy Holly was an American singer-songwriter who was a central and pioneering figure of mid-1950s rock and roll.

He was born in Lubbock, Texas, to a musical family during the Great Depression, and learned to play the guitar and sing alongside his siblings. His style was influenced by gospel music, country music and rhythm and blues act, which he performed in Lubbock with his friends from High School.

How did Buddy die?
On February 3, 1959, American rock and roll musicians Buddy, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa together with their pilot, Roger Peterson.
The incident became known as The Day The Music Died after Don McLean coined it in his 1971 song, American Pie.
